Apple Cider Margarita

Happy first day of fall! What better way to enter a new season than with a cocktail in hand. Fall cocktail that is. We’re giving a fall spin to a classic margarita. This Apple Cider Margarita is a real treat. Made with spiced apple cider, Tequila Anejo, maple, lime, and a splash of orange liqueur. It’s truly a cozy cocktail. Perfect for the holidays or a night cap.

Type of Tequila

I’m a tequila girl! Through and through. In the past year, I’ve explored more with different types of tequila. When I think about fall, I think about depth and coziness. And the different layers & flavors. I wanted this drink to be cozy and have some depth with a touch of smokiness. We brought back a bottle of tequila Anejo from Mexico earlier this year and I thought this would be the perfect tequila to go with this cocktail. It’s sweet. It’s smoky. With notes of vanilla and cinnamon. And because of how long it’s aged it’s very smooth. If you don’t have Tequila Anejo, feel free to use Mezcal or Tequila Silver.

What you’ll need

Spiced apple cider- Brings all the fall flavor. The touches of cinnamon, nutmeg and sweet apples create a great base. If you don’t have apple cider, you can sub for apple juice and garnish with a cinnamon stick. But I highly recommend apple cider if you can get your hands on it.
Tequila Anejo– Anejo is rich in flavor. It’s aged in oak barrels for 1-3 years. Because of how it’s stored, it has a smoky, sweet taste. It has rich flavors of vanilla, cinnamon making this the perfect tequila to pair with apple cider.
Orange liqueur a splash of Cointreau gave a nice citrus note, and balanced out the smokiness.
Maple- instead of simple syrup, I added a touch of maple to compliment the spiced cider flavors. It sweetened things up while adding some great fall flavor.
Lime- make sure it’s fresh!
